Good ol’ vibes

Books always give me good ol’ vibes! The always take me back to the summers when I visited my grandparents, to the library my little brother and I sneaked into, to the pages – some yellowing and others crisp where we’d lose ourselves for hours.

Wild poppies and buttercups

If you’re like me and already missing summer (here in the northern hemisphere), here’s a cheerful summery digital illustration of wild poppies and buttercups for you! I’ve created this on procreate app on a canvas 10 in x 10 in. The inspiration came from some watercolor poppies I had painted sometime ago!

This is available for download in my Etsy store

The same print is also available on various items in my red bubble shop! You can find them on tapestry, stickers, tote bags, journal covers and several other items besides the ones below.

Blueberries

It was a cloudy day and I was looking around for something to inspire me to paint. I peeked into the refrigerator and found some left over blueberries. I took a cup and carelessly dropped the blueberries into it letting some scatter around it and voila! this turned into a perfect piece of inspiration.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Watercolor and Ink Illustration

Lately I have been practicing and exploring watercolor and ink. Here is a sunflower I tried painting different ways – watercolor alone as well as before and after using ink.

I discovered that using ink on top of a loose watercolor art makes it quite whimsical and I love that effect! And that’s why I like the lower left sunflower a little more🌻

For ink I have used Sakura Pigma Micron pen 01 0.25mm in black.

Watercolor collages

Finally done with the two watercolor collages that I started sometime in early September! I divided a paper into squares or rectangles and filled them with scenery whenever I felt like watercoloring.

Sometimes when you really want to paint or test out a particular scenery in mind, but on a small scale, this is a good way to do so as you get to finish the work quickly and also get a general idea of how the scenery ends up looking.

I totally enjoyed this process since there was no time restraint and a lot of freedom involved. However, don’t get tempted to finish in a hurry! It doesn’t matter whether the painting is a product of your imagination or an inspiration from a photograph, looking back, each painting has a story to tell about what you were thinking at the time or where you were!

Leaves from a walk

Weather is on her best behavior these days with warm days and chilly evenings which leaves a lot of room for some luxurious walks in between. Every now and then I pause and am blown away by the quiet spectrum, from the golds to the flaming reds!

And from one of these walks, I procured two leaves lying astray on the pavement. They must have blown free from the humongous Bradford Pear that is leaning so much on one side that the branches sweep the ground everytime the wind blows.

The leaves looked so alluring, I just had to paint them. Watercolor? Acrylic? Something surreal about their nature made me pick watercolor. I hope I have succeeded in emulating the spirit of their hues!

What do you think? Do you also like to pick up leaves and paint them?

Apples

So this morning I positioned three Gala apples (my favorite) by a very sunny window to watercolor them. Sunday mornings are such a great time to paint. There is a certain air of ease, comfort… a space to create.

Here they are – Apples – to welcome October and to participate in the Doodlewash October Challenge.

Pepper and Limes

Learning to appreciate nature organically using watercolors.

It’s amazing how each day, painting teaches me something new and nudges me gently to take that extra step, to try something new – out of the ordinary. So when the bright reds and greens of the pepper and the limes beckoned me, I knew just what I had to do!!
